The man said, "Why you think you here?"
I said, "I got no idea".
I'm gonna, gonna lose my baby
So I always keep a bottle near.
                      ---Amy Winehouse "Rehab"

As a psychotherapist, I began serving the addicted population when I worked at Chrysalis in Santa Monica, CaliforniaMost of my clients were homeless or living in shelters and the majority of them were addicted to drugs and alcohol. After a few years at Chrysalis, I moved on to Phoenix House in nearby Venice where I held the position of Family Therapist for two years.

I then became affiliated with Beit T’Shuvah, a residential treatment center in Culver City, California, where for the past 8 years I have worked with both individual clients and groups. I facilitate a Gambling Process Group that is a part of the UCLA Gambling Studies Program along with an Eating Disorders Process Group that is under the auspices of Dr. Susan Krevoy.  In addtion, I have trained some of the residents of Beit T’Shuvah to go into local high schools, speaking with teens about drug and alcohol prevention.

I am in the fortunate position of studying with some of the foremost authorities in the field of Addiction, Brain Development, and the treatment of trauma. I study with Dr. Pat Ogden who heads the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute for the treatment of Trauma. From Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, I learned how to teach my clients to get in touch with Mindfulness. I also participate in an ongoing study group led by Dr. Allan Schore, a neuroscientist and psychotherapist who is the preeminent expert and founder of Affect Regulation Therapy.

In my work, I have the opportunity to be a part of the process in which individuals are able to attain long sought after peace of mind. They can finally begin to live their lives with satisfaction and…yes….with JOY.

Joy and Woe are woven fine

A Clothing fore the Soul divine

                           Under every grief and pine

Runs a joy with silken twine
